Gurgaon to Get Airport Link with Airport Metro

NEW DELHI: E Sreedharan, the leading man of Delhi Metro surprised residents of Gurgaon on the 17th Foundation Day of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Tuesday. Gurgaon would soon be getting the metro extended to it from New Delhi Railway Station. The route shall be NDRS to IGI Airport to Dwarka Sector 21 to further Gurgaon, to be incorporated as phase III. The extension would be 14 km and would ensure that the Gurgaon gets closer and accessible to city of Delhi, reducing the average time to 35 minutes only.

There’s more to come! Kamal Nath, Urban Development Minister has asked metro to commence planning the Phase IV of metro connectivity and has also asked DDA, the Delhi Development Authority to increase the budget for expansion of metro. As stated by him “I have asked DDA to gather not less tha Rs 10,000 crore to be given to Delhi Metro. We are required to devise ways to fund the development of urban transport system”.

Sreedharan, Head of Delhi Metro revealed that the expansion of Airport Express Line would follow the PPP model. He hints that the contract could be awarded to the operator of existing Airport Line, the Reliance Infra Consortium. However, nothing is decided yet about the operator.

He also stated that approval for the extension of metro to Mandi House from Central Secretariat has also been sought and the work on the same would commence in coming couple of months. Contract for this work has been awarded already.
